PinkIce Jewels Plans::: February 4-10

This is the first spread that I have legitimately posted here on my blog. I've done a few here and there on Instagram. I haven't been consist with the post but I have consistently planned. I always plan things even if I don't follow through with the plans. They do get written down.

I had to get this week down because I have a lot planned. I enjoyed creating this spread. Anyhoo...here it is!

Make it Monday: Alcohol Marker Samples

Finally able to get something other than earrings here on this blog. So I've been drawing a lot and I have a collection of alcohol markers, Prismacolor Markers to be exact and a couple of Copic too. I originally purchased a set of 24 then added more over time. Well, i wanted to purchase more but I didn't. When I went into Michaels to buy more I really didn't want to purchase ones I already have or colors to close to what I have now. So I made a sample sheet.

Now I have something to compare when buying more markers. Let's just hope I don't forget my sample sheet the next time I go shopping.

WHY NOT AWESOME?!? 

Well, I started this new segment on this blog titled "Make It Monday" and every monday I'm to post about something I have made or tried to make whether it's jewelry or some other thing. Today, I realized that the 3rd monday has gone by without a post!!! REALLY Serena???

So this post is to place myself on blast for not keeping up with my own ideas and there is no excuse because I could take an evening and do at least two or three and set them to post when I choose. Anyway, I'll try it again next week. Until then happy crafting!

Make it Monday: Boho Fabric Earrings

This is a new series that I'm starting on my blog, titled: Make it Monday. 

These are items (not limited to jewelry) I've been tossing around and thinking about making. Due to the fact that I work at Joann's, I tend to see a lot of craft projects and most of them I want to try and make myself. Other things I see on YouTube or I'm inspired by one thing another while living through everyday life.

Boho Fabric Earrings 

I discovered these on YouTube by Secret Soto Creativebirdie making the beads. I decided to make them into earrings. She makes her base with straws/ paper. I make my base with polymer clay. These beads are also called mixed media beads. They are very cool to make. View the video here.

An Official Introduction of....ME!

Hello. My name is Serena Trent and I thought I would officially introduce myself; give some insight into my life.

I am a mother of two, a boy (Savon: age 8) and a girl (Olivia, age 6). Savon is living with ADHD. Olivia is special needs, she was born at 23 gestation, which means when I was 23 weeks pregnant Olivia was born by emergency c-section. She weighted 1 pound, 1 ounce at birth. A birth under 500 mg is consider a micro-preemie,

Along with motherhood I am also single but parenting jointly with their Dad. Can I tell you this is no easy feat but all in all its extremely enjoyable. I have a lot of fun with my children.

Outside of my children, I love to write poetry and short stories. Drawing and painting are recent hobbies that I have dabbled in this past year. I am a seamstress as well but jewelry is by far the hobby I'm most passionately drawn. We will not discuss jewelry today. 

On most days though I don't have time for my other hobbies, between the children and PinkIce Jewels it's all soaked up into life.

Last but not least, I am a believer of Jesus Christ who is currently experiencing a spiritual awakening. What that really means is that I have realized that I've been a religious Christian going through the motions, not understanding or believing that I hold the power to create, change and/or manifest anything I want in my life. And this happens all through words and though just as God created Heaven and Earth in 7 days. 

My new found spiritual freedom will not have me converting nor arguing with any one on my nor their beliefs. Why you might ask because I know the truth and truth has no need to argue. 

I'm hoping this will give you a feel for me and a little of who I am.

i'm essie and color is my obession...

I love color so much so that its hard for me to choose which is my favorite. Actually, blue is my favorite color but only by default. When I was about seven years of age someone asked me what was my favorite color and up until then I always change the answer each time I was asked this question. Then someone says you got to pick a color and stick to it. This is how blue began the journey of being my favorite. 

Now Ive said that to explain that color is a very big source of inspiration for me. I'm drawn to certain beads due to their color. And for some reason I'm obsessed with the advertising ads that ESSIE creates. The ads are so thought provoking when it comes to creativity and design, the very embodiment of inspiration.

Sunshine and Family

It's what the doctor ordered!!!

 

I have this itchy rash for the past month and a half. I've been to two previous doctors but today I saw the third one and you know what she told me.......

to go sit in the SUN!!!

Yes sit in the sun! So, my two babies and myself went and sat in the sun eating pineapples and watermelon. Delicious times.

Lapis, Coral and Mother of Pearls

I love to challenge myself. So, I go on these bead hauls and tend to go crazy, especially since I just got my tax return. When I told the clerk at the bead store what I wanted to do and showed her my colors she didn't like the color palette. But I had orange and blue in my head and when I react on thoughts without the second guess it usually turns out right. 

I didn't steer myself wrong this time either. I love the way the bracelet and earrings turned out.

Pattern Review, Simplicity 2219

  Pattern Description: Misses' knit dress in two lengths 

Pattern Sizing: 6 to 22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, but I changed the bodice.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the fullest of the skirt of the dress. I disliked the low cut front of the bodice.

Fabric Used: A polyester pink and white chevron printed knit and the front is a small cotton ribbed knit. 

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I changed the front of the dress by adding a panel of a different color. I also changed the bodice as well, actually using the back as the front too. I added the front panel because the pink fabric was a remnant, so the design started evolving on.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, but next time I will actually make the dress as is and probably in the shorter version. I also recommend it to others.

Conclusion: This dress was very easy to make. The issues I had were with the bodice, mostly due to me making the back the front. The shift was not hard, the side panels had to be eased into the front. I would make my version again!
